Clusone

Overview

Nestled among the majestic peaks of the Orobie Prealps, Clusone is a true gem of the Seriana Valley – a place where history, art, and nature harmoniously intertwine. This charming town in the Bergamo province, granted the title of “City” in 1957 for its historical and cultural significance, is the vibrant heart of the Upper Seriana Valley. It’s an ideal destination for anyone wishing to immerse themselves in an atmosphere rich in charm, tradition, and natural beauty.

Food

The Clusone biscuit, a registered trademark, is produced exclusively by the Trussardi pastry shop in Clusone. This cookie, made from a rediscovered recipe dating back to 1920, is a cross between a meringue and an amaretto, and is coated in chocolate.

Points of Interest

Strolling through the streets of Clusone feels like stepping back in time, surrounded by historic buildings, frescoed churches, and picturesque views that narrate centuries of history. Thanks to this heritage, Clusone has earned the nickname “Painted City”.

The historic center revolves around the scenic Piazza dell’Orologio, dominated by the Fanzago Planetary Clock, a masterpiece created in 1583 that still functions perfectly. This extraordinary mechanism, which rotates counterclockwise, not only tells the time but also displays the moon phases and planetary positions with a single hand, making it one of the city’s most iconic attractions. Equally striking is the Basilica of Santa Maria Assunta, a jewel of Lombard Baroque architecture that houses magnificent artworks including frescoes, paintings, and a stunning altarpiece that spans centuries of faith and culture. Next to the basilica is the Oratory of the Disciplini, home to one of the most famous frescoes in all of Lombardy: the Danza Macabra (“Dance of Death”), a haunting and mysterious 15th-century artwork that explores the theme of the equality of all before death with a Gothic touch.

Thanks to its rich artistic and cultural offerings, Clusone has received prestigious accolades such as the Orange Flag from the Italian Touring Club (confirmed through 2026) and inclusion in the list of “The Most Beautiful Villages in Italy”.

But Clusone is not just about art and history. Its prime location between mountains and valleys makes it the perfect base for hiking, cycling, outdoor adventures, and sports in every season. Hiking and mountain biking enthusiasts will find scenic trails suitable for all skill levels: from relaxing walks in Clusone’s Pine Forest to more challenging routes leading to breathtaking peaks such as Pizzo Formico or Monte Pora. In winter, its proximity to the ski resorts of Presolana and Monte Pora offers winter sports lovers opportunities for skiing, ski touring, and snowshoeing through stunning snowy landscapes.

Whether for a cultural visit, a sports-filled vacation, or a relaxing weekend in nature, Clusone welcomes you with authentic warmth, offering an unforgettable experience of history, enchanting landscapes, and genuine local flavors.

Aprica

Overview

Aprica is an open and sunny place, nestled on a wide plateau at around 1,200 meters, between the provinces of Sondrio and Brescia. Just a stone’s throw from Switzerland and the spectacular Bernina Express railway, it is an ideal destination for those seeking a mountain holiday surrounded by nature, sport, and Alpine traditions.

Aprica landscapes are enchanting in every season. Over 200 kilometres of trails wind through lush forests and quiet valleys, many of which are also suitable for mountain biking and high-altitude hiking, reaching heights of over 2,000 meters. Themed paths and protected areas lead visitors into the heart of the Orobie Valtellinesi Park, offering immersive experiences in the summer Alpine environment.

Among the most fascinating attractions is the Alpine Nature Wildlife Sanctuary, where visitors can safely observe deer, ibex, birds of prey, a couple of brown bears, and other Alpine wildlife in their natural habitat, all with full respect for the environment.

Aprica is also a strategic base for road cycling and motorcycle touring enthusiasts: in just a few kilometres, you can reach some of the most legendary Alpine passes in the world of cycling – Stelvio, Gavia, and Mortirolo – iconic Giro d’Italia destinations where sport and scenery merge into a one-of-a-kind experience.

When winter comes, Aprica transforms into a premier destination for snow sports. Generous snowfalls and a long ski season allow visitors to enjoy 50 kilometres of slopes suitable for all skill levels. Cozy mountain lodges offer local specialties between runs. For cross-country ski lovers, panoramic slopes wind through peaceful forest settings. Those into ski mountaineering and snowshoeing can venture into wilder, less-travelled terrain. A truly unmissable experience is night skiing on Baradello Superpanoramica: the longest illuminated ski slope in Europe, offering spectacular views over Valtellina under the stars.

Discovering Aprica also means connecting with its most authentic soul. Wandering through its historic districts, visitors find charming corners adorned with Alcide Pancot’s murals, the ancient Mill, and sites steeped in memory and folklore, often brought to life by traditional rural festivals and events. The Emotions in Nature Gallery offers a unique exhibition path dedicated to mountain ecosystems and their inhabitants, while the Ski Museum recounts the history of this sport through objects, memorabilia, and personal stories from the past.

Exploring a place also means savoring its culinary excellence. Valtellina traditional cuisine wins hearts with simple yet flavorful dishes: pizzoccheri, sciatt, and local specialties like Bresaola della Valtellina IGP and a variety of mountain cheese. All perfectly paired with the region’s renowned wines Rosso di Valtellina DOC, Valtellina Superiore DOCG, and the bold Sforzato di Valtellina DOCG. Aprica typical dessert, panvì, is a humble yet delicious treat made with rye bread toasted in butter and sprinkled with red wine and sugar: an authentic taste of the local tradition.

Living Aprica means letting yourself be embraced by the beauty of nature, the passion for sport, and the richness of a culture that stands the test of time. A place where every season brings something special and every visitor becomes part of a story that continues to evolve.
