From the Tyrrhenian sea to the Alps: the 2027 Giro d’Italia Women route unveiled

    02/11/2026

The official route of the 2027 Giro d’Italia Women, organised by RCS Sport for the fourth consecutive year, was unveiled today at the Sala Sinopoli of the Auditorium Parco della Musica Ennio Morricone in Rome.

The race will start in Viareggio on Saturday, 29 May, before concluding on Sunday, 6 June, with the Monte Bianco Stage. The nine-stage route covers a total of 1,132 kilometres and features 17,450 metres of elevation gain.

Two summit finishes are scheduled: the first on Stage 4, from Credaro to Passo della Presolana, and the second on Stage 6, from Bergamo to Madesimo-Valle Spluga. The decisive appointments will also include the Valdigne Tudor ITT uphill time trial and the final stage, entirely within the Aosta Valley, named the Monte Bianco Stage.

The presentation was hosted by Pierluigi Pardo and Cristina Fantoni, with Elena Cecchini, Giacomo Nizzolo and Moreno Moser providing technical insights into the route. The event was attended by numerous representatives from the worlds of sport, entertainment, institutions and the companies partnering with the Corsa Rosa.

Alessandro Onorato, Councillor for Major Events, Sport, Tourism and Fashion of Roma Capitale, welcomed the guests. Also in attendance were senior RCS Group executives: Urbano Cairo, President of RCS MediaGroup; Paolo Bellino, CEO of RCS Sports & Events; Luca Guercilena, Chief Operating Officer & Cycling Director of RCS Sports & Events; Matteo Mursia, Chief Revenue Officer of RCS Sports & Events; and Stefano Barigelli, Editor-in-Chief of La Gazzetta dello Sport.

    THE ROUTE

Nine stages, 1,132 kilometres and 17,450 metres of elevation gain. The 2027 Giro d’Italia Women features a comprehensive and selective route, combining opportunities for the sprinters, rolling stages and major mountain challenges. From Tuscany to Liguria, across the Po Valley and into the Alpine climbs of Lombardy and the Aosta Valley, the Corsa Rosa will take place from 29 May to 6 June.

Stage 1, starting and finishing in Viareggio, will immediately present some challenges for the sprinters. Four ascents of the Pitoro climb could make for a selective race.

Stage 2, from Massa to Genoa, features rolling terrain and more than 2,000 metres of elevation gain, before the race continues from Cogorno to Viadana. At 171 kilometres, Stage 3 is the longest of this edition and, on paper, offers a favourable opportunity for the fast finishers.

The first major mountain challenge comes on Stage 4, from Credaro to Passo della Presolana. Covering 131 kilometres with 3,500 metres of elevation gain, the stage in the Bergamo area will provide an important test for the riders aspiring to the Maglia Rosa. The following day, the Cassano d’Adda circuit will offer the sprinters another opportunity before the race enters its most demanding phase.

Stage 6, from Bergamo to Madesimo-Passo dello Spluga, will take the peloton over Passo San Marco, designated this year’s Cima Alfonsina Strada. The stage covers 137 kilometres with 3,550 metres of elevation gain. Two categorised climbs feature along the route, which culminates in a summit finish at an altitude of 1,535 metres.

The following day, the entirely Lombard stage from Carugate to Rho, featuring a predominantly flat profile, will provide the sprinters with their final opportunity.

The closing weekend will be decisive for the general classification. On Saturday, 5 June, the Valdigne Tudor ITT will feature an 11-kilometre uphill time trial with 650 metres of elevation gain. The race against the clock could reshape the overall standings on the eve of the final stage.

On Sunday, 6 June, the Monte Bianco Stage will bring the 2027 Giro d’Italia Women to a close with a 132-kilometre Alpine stage featuring 3,950 metres of elevation gain. The route will partly retrace roads tackled by the men’s Giro d’Italia in 2019. It will be the final major opportunity for the climbers to attack and fight for the Maglia Rosa.
