With less than a week to go until the start of the Giro d’Italia Women, set for July 6 in Bergamo, the official rider list has been revealed, featuring many of the sport’s biggest stars. The team presentation will take place the day before, on Saturday, July 5 at 6 PM, at ChorusLife in Bergamo.
After their thrilling showdown in 2024—when they were neck and neck until the final 2 km of the last stage—Elisa Longo Borghini and Lotte Kopecky return as two of the top contenders for the Maglia Rosa. However, much has changed since last year. The Italian star has left Lidl-Trek after six seasons to join UAE Team ADQ, while the World Champion will now share leadership duties at SD Worx with Anna van der Breggen, a four-time Giro winner making her racing comeback after a three-year retirement.
Several other top-10 finishers from the 2024 edition are also on the entry list: Paulina Rooijakkers (4th), Juliette Labous (5th), Antonia Niedermaier (6th), Gaia Realini (7th), and Cecilie Uttrup Ludwig (8th). There’s growing anticipation around Marlen Reusser, fresh off her Tour de Suisse Women victory and second place at La Vuelta Femenina. The list of potential dark horses include Monica Trinca Colonel, Evita Muzic, Yara Kastelijn, and Barbara Malcotti.
A deep list of stage hunters is set to light up the race. Leading the charge is European Champion Lorena Wiebes, who has already claimed 12 victories this season and is fresh from her triumph at Sanremo Women—she’ll be the sprinter to beat. Among her fiercest rivals are Giro legend Marianne Vos, a three-time overall winner, and Chiara Consonni, still seeking her first win of the 2025 season but already a three-time stage winner in past editions. Other fast finishers to watch include Liane Lippert, Silvia Zanardi, Christina Schweinberger, Georgia Baker, and Anniina Ahtosalo.
The field of riders targeting stage wins—especially in the time trial and more dynamic stages—is just as impressive. Names to watch include: Elizabeth Deignan, Marta Cavalli, Ashleigh Moolman Pasio, Pfeiffer Georgi, Veronica Ewers, Ane Santesteban, Sarah Gigante, Sara Casasola, Eleonora Ciabocco, Soraya Paladin, and Shirin Van Anrooij.
