After the fireworks in Aprica, the 2025 Giro d’Italia Women resumes from Passo del Tonale with Stage 3, the Vezza d’Oglio – Trento, 122 km. The sprinters will be hoping to grit their teeth early on, then enjoy the long descent into the Trentino capital, one of their two likely chances to make a mark in this Corsa Rosa.
Tonale at the start, a daunting prospect for the sprinters
Stage 3 kicks off with a bang: riders will immediately face the Cima Alfonsina Strada, cresting at 1,883 meters on the Passo del Tonale, with an 11 km climb at 6% – hardly typical terrain for a stage that should suit the sprinters. Sure, there will still be 105 km to go after the summit, but everything will depend on how the Tonale is raced. If, as expected, the peloton hits the climb still compact, early attacks aiming to make the break of the day could force a fast tempo, and that’s where sprinters may start to struggle. Losing a few seconds at the top wouldn’t be a big deal. But if they shed multiple minutes, their shot at a comeback could be gone.
