Stage 5 Preview: Monselice is made for speed

    09/07/2025

After the heartbreak in Trento and the massive crash, Stage 5 – 120 km from Mirano to Monselice – offers the sprinters what may be their last real chance to make an impact at the 2025 Giro d’Italia Women. Expect high speeds, elbows out, and raw power on the line in the heart of the Padua province.

    As flat as a pancake

Between Mirano and Monselice, the riders won’t face any significant elevation challenges.
After a scenic ride across the Po Valley, the peloton reaches Monselice with over 90 km covered, and from there, tackle a 14.2 km circuit to be repeated twice.
The key feature? The short but punchy Arquà Petrarca climb (600 meters at 5.6%), coming just 8 km from the finish.
Avoiding a sprint finish? Nearly impossible.

    Wiebes chasing the double

The most anticipated name is Lorena Wiebes (SD Worx-Protime), who will be chasing back-to-back wins. She’ll have to fend off challenges from Chiara Consonni (Canyon//SRAM zondacrypto) and Marianne Vos (Visma | Lease a Bike), as well as Sara Fiorin (Ceratizit), Laura Tomasi (Laboral Kutxa–Fundación Euskadi), and Silvia Zanardi (Human Powered Health).
