Speaking seconds after the stage finish, the winner of the 4th UAE Tour Women Elisa Longo Borghini said: “This victory definitely tastes very good. As a team we really wanted to win here and personally, Jebel Hafeet is a climb that I have in my heart. Team UAE ADQ supported me at their best. We came here not sure about the shape I was in. We took it a little bit easier this winter. So it was a bit harder to win this year compared to last year. I’m very very happy. I thank my trainer Paolo Slongo and all the people who are behind me. My rivals started attacking and I like to play so I went into the game. I stayed calm and chilled until I saw them pretty tired. Kasia [Niewiadoma] followed me so I attacked her again to drop her. Chapeau to everyone who made it a nice race up the climb. I felt joy when I crossed the line. This climb reminds me one friend I lost last year. This victory goes to him”.
