Speaking seconds after the stage finish, the stage winner and Red Jersey Lorena Wiebes said: “I got scared in the final today. I was not sure if I’d be able to sprint. It doesn’t often happen but I lost Barbara [Guarischi] who normally leads me out. It happened today because we went so slow in the last 20 kilometres. It means everybody could go full gas in the last 5kms, changing from big roads to smaller ones. There was a lot going on! We aimed for the corner with 1.2km to go but we were totally not into positions there, also in in the right position going into the last corner 600 meters before the line but I kept on trusting Barbara in that case. Eventually we came to the front and I started my sprint early.”
