After the fireworks in the Dolomites, the peloton gets some respite with Stage 6, a largely flat 159-kilometre route from Ala to Brescello. It is one of the few remaining opportunities for the sprinters and should provide a temporary truce in the battle for the Maglia Rosa before the decisive stages later in the week.
The stage features very few difficulties and is expected to be controlled by the teams of the fast finishers. A breakaway is likely to animate the early part of the day, but the long roads across the Po Valley favour a bunch sprint. Wind conditions could play a role, although on paper this is one of the simplest stages of the race.
